Ludovici Dancers Perform In NYC

Three dancers from the Ludovici Dance Academy performed in a dance show in New York for Dan Karaty.

Karaty is one of the judges and choreographers on “So You Think You Can Dance” which aired its second season this summer.  Karaty choreographed and directed his own New York City dance show July 20.  Tehearsals were held from July 15-19 in New York City.  Dancers auditioned for numbers.

Three people from the New Castle are were recognized.  Joanna Pfeiffer, a junior at Neshannock High School, was seledted for “Technologic” and “Gotta Get Through This”.  Constance Richareds, an eighth grader at Neshannock, was selected for “What I Say and Do.”.  Cassidy Grady, a third grade student at Neshannock , was selected for “Bang The Drum” and “Shout.”

Karaty choreographed all the numbers, and dancers performed with a live band.  Joanna, Constance and Cassidy had dance classes and rehearsals for five days in New York from 8:30 a.m. to 10:15 p.m. each day.  Class instucors included Karaty, Ray Leeper, , Dee Caspary, Tre Holloway, Tawanna Charlton, Joey Dowling, Reed Kelly, and Jason Parsons.

Approximately 150 dancers from around the country participated.  Students were selected to attend the “Shake The Floor” New York Dance Intensive through the “Jump” convention organization.  “Shake the Floor”, jazz, and hip-hop scholarships were awarded to selected students throughout various states and countries that included California and Canada.  Highlights of the performance and Intensive classes can be seen on

Joanna Pfeiffer and Constance Richards are in the senior repertoire at the Ludovici Dance Academy.  They spend five days per week in dance classes, including ballet, pointe, modern, tap, jazz, lyrical, and hip-hop.  Cassidy Grady is in the kid repertoire at the academyand attends classes from 4:30 to 8:00 p.m. three times per week.  Classes for Cassidy’s division include: Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Lyrical, and Hip-Hop.  Repertoire auditions were held in the summer.  Repertoire dancers attend 4-12 classes pere week, as well as rehearsals for competitioin numbers.  Repertoire dancers also participate in two dance workshops per year held at Pittsburgh.

Ludovici Dancers also have the opportunity to participate in competitions through Competition Troupe, instead of company level classes.  Competion Troupe is a hip-hop based performance group of dancers who need to attednd only one class per wek to be elgible for competions.  Auditions for competion troupe are held at the academy.  Juniors, ages 12 and under, audition on Mondays from 5:15-5:45 p.m.  Seniors, ages 13 and up, audition on Thursdays from 6:30-7:00 p.m. from September 11-28th.  For more information call the academy at (724) 656-9336.
